Faculty and staff,

ITS has enabled Microsoft Bing Chat Enterprise, an institutionally-scoped version of Bing Chat. Bing Chat Enterprise is a more secure alternative to consumer-oriented generative AI services like ChatGPT, Google Bard or the non-enterprise version of Bing Chat.

Who has access
At this point, Bing Chat Enterprise is available to UNC faculty and staff only. Microsoft presents Bing Chat Enterprise for existing faculty and staff licenses at no additional cost to the University. Microsoft did not extend it to student licenses. ITS is working with Microsoft to understand the potential for student licensing and access.

Information safeguarding
Safeguarding information is the key benefit to using Bing Chat Enterprise. When you use the enterprise version of Bing Chat, Microsoft does not store or view your chats. Your queries are encrypted, and Microsoft does not use UNC-Chapel Hill data or queries to train any of its models. You still have a responsibility to exercise due care over any data you submit to a third party. Protect the University’s and your own information.

Getting started
You access Bing Chat Enterprise by signing into your web browser with your UNC account, then visiting Bing Chat, or by visiting Bing Chat and clicking “sign in” in the top right.

Learn more about Bing Chat Enterprise on the ITS website, which includes links to Microsoft’s documentation.
