Our Services

The Office of Development and Alumni Affairs is charged with developing opportunities for our School to advance our engagement with key constituencies in N.C. and beyond. The team strives to:

  • Lead a robust advancement program that is goal oriented and supportive of each individual member of the team;
  • Develop a strong collaborative team consisting of faculty, staff, student, university partners and volunteers that work together on priority issues to further the internal and external goals of the School;
  • Encourage the financial investment of our alumni and other constituencies in advancing the strategic priorities of the School;
  • Create and promote opportunities for Involvement of key individuals to assist in furthering the strategic priorities of and financial resources available to the School.

  • Leads all development activities, including principal, major and annual fund development; stewardship; operational and strategic planning, board management, fund distribution; development communications, donor events, and alumni relations
  • Manages the School’s portfolio of top prospects to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major and principal gifts as well as the School’s annual giving
  • Serves as the Executive Director for the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Foundation
  • Liaison with the Board of Advisers and the Hussman Alumni Association Board

  • Works closely with the Associate Dean and the development team to develop and implement annual giving, stewardship and alumni engagement plans, which advance the school’s strategic goals
  • Manages the donor relations position
  • Promotes best practices for donor stewardship
  • Fosters collaborative pan-university development efforts with University Development Office, Carolina Annual Giving Office, Donor Relations and Stewardship Office and other units and partners across the University
  • Maintains a portfolio of 75 to 100 leadership annual giving prospects
  • Sets and meets leadership annual giving and annual giving goals
  • Staffs the Alumni board

  • Provides administrative support of the Associate Dean including development meeting scheduling, donor visit planning and donor communication
  • Manages implementation of the annual campaign, including working with vendors, preparing reports, and implementing GIVEUNC
  • Provides programmatic support to the Foundation Board and Board of Advisors, including meeting planning and execution, communications, and board meeting materials; maintains all board membership lists
  • Works with the Associate Dean and Development Director to coordinate and schedule major gift planning and implement major gift strategy
  • Maintains the team’s strategic implementation plan

STEWARDSHIP AND DONOR RELATIONS COORDINATOR

  • Works closely with the Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs to ensure our donors are stewarded appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates and provides stewardship of philanthropic gifts including thanks letters, reporting, and gift processing.
  • Reports fund-use information to major donors, ensuring that the donors receive updated information about the impact of their gifts and remain connected to the School
  • Provides support for alumni activities
  • Serves as the team’s database expert running queries, making database updates and answering database questions
