The nomination window for the 2024 Richard Cole Service Award is now closed. The winners will be announced during the school meeting on May 8, 2024.

The award recognizes one junior and one senior faculty member who each strive to create a collaborative culture within the school. The award is named for Dean Emeritus Richard Cole who served as UNC Hussman dean from 1979-2005.

Full-time faculty members who have taught at the school for two or more years are eligible for nomination. The award may be won by the same person more than once, but members of the selection committee are not eligible to win the prize.
Junior or Senior faculty in the Hussman School as well as students in the Hussman School may submit a nomination via an email to the dean. Self-nominations are allowed.
One junior and one senior faculty member will be selected by a committee consisting of the Dean (chair), Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Resources, Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies, and the Associate Dean of ABIDE.
Richard Cole served as dean of the school from 1979-2005. During his tenure, Cole fueled student growth by adding advertising and public relations and visual communication tracks to the school’s longtime core of journalism, as well as by adding new programs, including medical, sports and business journalism. Cole was also instrumental in the school’s move to Carroll Hall from Howell Hall in 1999.
