Quick Reference Guides for Using TIM

All school employees (with the exception of nine-month faculty and temporary EHRA non-faculty staff) are required to track their hours worked and/or leave taken in the Time and Information Management (TIM) System. Employees can access TIM directly at https://unctim.unc.edu or through Employee Self-Service in ConnectCarolina.

SHRA student workers and non-student SHRA temporary employees must log in to record time worked each day. Following the biweekly pay schedule, review and approve your timecard no later than 12 p.m. every other Monday. Please approve your timecard even if you have not reported any work hours in the last two weeks. Any timecard edits or missed-punch requests must be submitted to your supervisor.

Enter start and end times daily. Following the biweekly pay schedule, review and approve your timecard no later than 12 p.m. every other Monday. Any timecard edits or missed-punch requests must be submitted to your supervisor.
SHRA exempt employees are not required to enter hours worked, but are required to enter all leave taken. Following the biweekly pay schedule, review and approve your timecard no later than 12 p.m. every other Monday. Any timecard edits must be submitted to your supervisor.

Permanent EHRA Non-Faculty employees are not required to enter hours worked, but are required to enter all leave taken. Permanent EHRA nine-month faculty employees are not required to enter hours worked or leave taken. Employees must review and approve their timecards for the previous month no later than the 5th of each month. Any timecard edits must be submitted to your supervisor.

If you need assistance with accessing or logging in to TIM, please call (919) 962-HELP (4357) or submit a ticket at help.unc.edu.

If you have additional questions about using TIM, please contact the school’s TIM administrator Colin Stepien at cstepien@unc.edu.

OVERTIME POLICY (Non-Exempt SHRA Employees)

When SHRA permanent and temporary non-exempt employees work more than 40 hours in a work week, the employee must be paid or receive compensatory time off at the time and a half rate for any hours worked over 40 hours.

Employees are responsible for securing approval from their supervisor prior to adjusting their approved work schedule, including any changes that could result in overtime.  Managers may choose to alter work hours on another day or days within the same work week to avoid overtime, consistent with the operational needs of their unit.

  •

A SHRA non-exempt employee must secure approval from their immediate supervisor before incurring overtime.

Employees who work overtime without the proper advanced authorization may be subject to disciplinary action.

The preference, and default in the TIM system, is that compensatory time off will be utilized prior to providing overtime pay. When an employee takes personal leave, any accrued compensatory time off must be used prior to vacation or bonus leave.

For additional information, please refer to the Overtime & Compensatory Time Off for SHRA Non-Exempt Employees Policy
